단순하고 명쾌한 리듬, 유쾌한 가사 그리고 맘껏 흥얼거릴 수 있는 멜로디, 요것들이 소위 요즘의 네오펑크그룹들이 가지고 있는 메리트라고 할 수 있겠다. 요것들이? 라고 얘기하면 정말 지금 21세기, 이 시기에만 적용될 것처럼 보이지만 결코 아니다.
시대마다 '요것들'이라 할 수 있는 특색들은 언제나 존재해왔고 기성의 비판과 새로운 지지속에 그 자양분을 얻어왔다. Bowling For Soup가 보여주는 는 요즈음 '요것들'로 보여주는 퍼포먼스치고는 양반축에 낄런지도 모르겠다.
그다지 급하지 않는 속도에 진행도 여유있는 모습을 보여주며 곡에 충실하고자 하는 모습이 귀에 밟히면서 역쉬 앞뒤가 뭔지 알고 있는 '개념'을 보여준다.
쓸데없는 오버질이 없다는 것. 특히 후반부로 갈수록 비트 강한 곡 전개를 망치지 않고 쓰릴 때 쓰리게 불러주는 미덕은 즐거이 듣게 만드는 중요한 요소이자 이 곡을 차별화 시키는 멋진 어우러짐이다.

Bowling For Soup
2002년 그래미에 노미네이트되는 영광 아닌 영광을 얻었지만 그래미든 아니든 소위 뺏 가이들이 원하는 이 여인은 매룍적인 것에는 틀림없다. 어디 제목만 보고 매력적이겠는가, 1994년부터 시작된 이들의 여정에 즐겁게 합승한 여인되겠다.
Bowling For Soup는 94년 보컬이자 기타리스트인 Jaret Reddick와 기타리스트 겸 보컬인 Chris Burney, 베이시스트 Erik Chandler, 드러머 Gary Wiseman가 모여 뭉쳤다. 뭉치기만 하면 속 편하게? 진짜 활동은 97년부터 시작됐다.
닥치는대로 무대에 오른 이들은 98년 초, 지역 레이블인 FFROE를 통해 첫 EP [Tell Me When to Whoa!]를 발매하고 제대로 된 첫 앨범 [Rock on Honorable Ones!!!]을 내놓았다. 이 앨범에 대한 반응이 좋자 드뎌 메이저로 데뷔하는 기회를 얻게 됐다.
2000년 [Let's Do It for Johnny!]를 내놓는데 여기엔 순수 메이적 데뷔곡이라기 보다는 이전에 인디에서 활동했던 '좋은 곡'들과 몇 개의 신곡을 수록했다. 이 중엔 Bryan Adams의 가 이란 이름으로 수록되기도 했다.
2년 후 [Drunk Enough to Dance]라는, 이름부터 한잔하고 기분 딱 좋은(ㅡㅡ;;) 앨범을 내놓았는데 앨범은 129위에 그쳤지만 지금 이 노래 가 싱글 64위에 오르는 동시에 연말 그래미에서 노미네이트되는 인정을 받았다.
2004년 발매한 앨범 [Hangover You Don't Deserve]는 이전보다 더한 홍보를 필요치 않았다. 록 차트에서는 말할것도 없고 싱글 <1985>가 23위에 올랐으며 도 눈높이 맞추느라 23위까지 왔다갔다. 뒤이어 도 47위에 자리하며 선전하는 동안 앨범은 37위까지 올라 대중들에게 나름대로의 수프를 제대로 먹였다.
