하지만 이 곡만큼은 No.
92년 조금은 뒤늦게 명반으로 꼽혔던 [Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik]의 대히트곡 로 청양고추보다 맵쌀하다는 RHCP를 만나게 되었다.
지금도 그렇지만 Funk와는 바이오리듬이 그닥 맞지 않는지 이 앨범에 수록되었던 또 하나의 히트곡 도 열심히 들어봤지만 결국 친구가 되기 힘들었다. 물론, 이 앨범도 열심히 들었다. 내공이 부족했으리라, 지금처럼.
하지만 RHCP의 팬까지는 아니더라도 의 팬이라고는 할 수 있겠다. 덕분에 관심이 [Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik]까지였지만 처음 우리나라에 17곡의 수록곡 중 8곡만이 살아남은 누더기모습으로 들어왔을 때 분노했었고 - 그 와중에 는 살아있어 안도했다는 - 이 곡이 2위까지 오르며 RHCP를 정상의 밴드로 발돋움할 수 있는 효자로서의 역할을 잘 수행해낸 것도 기뻤다.
(이 앨범은 전세계적으로 700만장을 팔았는데, 전작이 50만장 골드 앨범을 기록했음을 보면 대중들에게 RHCP를 알리는데 일조했다. 도 빼놓을 수 없지만)
...의 제목이 풍기는 뉘앙스와 따뜻함을 그리워하는 목소리와 노랫말...에 끌리지 않을 수 없었다. 어려웠던 시절을 회상하는 '공식적' 내용으로 알고 있지만 제목이 주는 느낌 자체가 '배고픔'으로 다가왔기 때문이리라.

초반부의 전개가 그야말로 예술이지만... 신은 100%를 허락하기 싫으셨는지... 후반부 호들갑스러운 백보컬은 깊이 빨아들인 담배연기를 내뱉는 것만큼이나 아쉬움을 동반했다.
92년 [Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik]이 성공 하이웨이에 오른 후 국도로 빠지는 일 없이 10년이 넘도록 고속질주 중인 레드 핫 칠리 페퍼스.
