1. Now with the economy listed as the main issue for most US voters, talk about the state of this country's finances is sure to be in the spotlight. From New York, CNN's Maggie Lake has more.

2. As Democrats begin their Mile High party, they still must convince many Americans that they have the candidate with the best plan to fix the economy. One thing is certain, Americans believe there is an awful lot to fix. A new CNN Opinion Research poll released Monday shows that 75% of Americans think the US economy is in bad shape. 43% say that economy is "in very poor shape".
3. Now you think with numbers like these, Obama would be way ahead in the polls, instead of the tight race he finds himself in now. After all, the economic record of the current Republican administration has been controversial at best. But up to this point, Obama has not been able to get main traction on this issue, even at a time when some believe the US has entered recession. A recent poll shows Obama and his likely Republican opponent John McCain tied on who would handle the economy the best: 45% each. Experts agree that Democrats really have to turn this perception around at this week's convention.

"They are going to have to have probably some concrete kind of examples to offer with respect to job security or job growth and with respect to prices of things you buy everyday. So it's like food and energy.
